Up in the air: Heavy goods on transatlantic flight

News

A hydropneumatic tank is a type of storage tank, designed to store water and air under pressure to provide pressurized water on-demand, eliminating the constant need for a pump and making processes more efficient. Weighing a whopping 11,350 kg (more than 25,000 lbs) and with dimensions of 846x220x220 cm (333x67x67 in), transporting this steel tank and its accessories definitely presented its challenges, but these were all overcome by the skilled and highly experienced Hellmann team.

This returning customer of the mining industry was quick to select Hellmann to organize the shipment, so the team must have left a lasting impression! Our logistics experts got straight to work, remaining in close contact with the shipper every day from the point of consignment to the tank’s arrival in Argentina.

The tank and crates were picked up directly from the shipper’s premises, roughly 250 km from Paris, and were then transported inland to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS), all organized by Hellmann.

One of the crucial challenges was timing, as the shipper was set to close for the summer holidays 10 days before the planned departure date. Therefore, Hellmann had to seek out approval from the Airline Ground Handler at Amsterdam airport to store the tank on site for 10 days.

The shipper also made several last minute amendments to the packing details, to which the Hellmann team were fully adaptable and altered the plans accordingly. Due to the size of the tank, an aircraft with a nose-door was required for loading, which could only be provided by one airline.

The Hellmann team pulled it off once again. The tank and crates were shipped on a direct flight to Ministro International Airport in Ezeiza, Argentina, without encountering any problems during the airport safety processes. The goods were then picked up from the airport by an independent provider and transported to their final destination in the Argentinian city, Salta.

“Due to the client’s urgency, efficient timing was crucial. We always make reservations according to our client’s request, meeting very specific and critical requirements. It’s all about customer service for us, and that’s what makes us different”, says Donatella Ranieri, Sales Supervisor at Hellmann Argentina.
