A heavy load for the Al Maktoum Solar Project

News

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is one of the largest renewable energy projects in the world, spanning over a total of 77 square kilometers in the desert, about 50 kilometers south of Dubai. The solar park is planned to reach a production of 5,000 MW by 2030, providing clean energy to 880,000 residences, which will save over 6.5 milliontons of carbon emissions annually. The total investment of the five expansion steps amounts to a whopping AED 50 billion.

The solar park is currently in its fourth of the five development stages, making this the fourth time that the Hellmann Industry Projects Team has been assigned by the Chinese Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor in charge of the project. Six heavy-weight heat exchanger units were directly received from a break bulk vessel in the port of Jebel Ali and loaded onto multi-axle heavy duty trucks and were then transported 120 kilometers to the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.

Before the pick-up at the port of Jebel Ali, the experienced Hellmann team conducted a route and site survey to determine any difficulties the heavy-cargo trucks would have to face on the way. Due to weight restrictions on bridges, special permits had to be arranged from the local authorities. Additionally, the truckers had to remove their dividers for the trailers to be able to make U-turns.
The colleagues also reported that the road surfacing near the construction site was unsuitable for the heavy-duty trucks to pass through, so the EPC contractor prepared ahead of delivery by paving and compacting the sand to be able to move the trailers.

The rigorous planning paid off. It took the industrial logistics experts just one week to deliver the units, completing the job well ahead of schedule and further strengthening a relationship with yet another happy customer.
