Start of Construction – New Facility in Bremen

News

Ground-breaking ceremony for another forward-looking construction project: After a long period of planning, construction of our new freight forwarding facility in Bremen began on Wednesday, November 17, 2020. Our previous location in Ludwig-Erhard-Strasse will be expanded in the course of the expansion on the adjacent 40,000 sqm site by around 1,500 sqm of office space as well as 8,000 sqm of handling area with 100 gates. Completion is planned for the second half of 2021.

Since 1989, Hellmann has been represented at the Bremen location with a cross-product location combining sea and road transportation as well as contract logistics in the GVZ Bremen - the largest freight transportation center in Germany. The excellent transport links, which cover the entire spectrum of combined transport with sea, rail & road transportation, have led to steady growth in volume over the past decades, pushing the current facility to its capacity limits. At the same time, the new building will create the framework conditions for modern working and the digitalization of the freight forwarding world: The implementation of various innovative technologies, such as digital order management at the depot, is intended above all to optimize operational processes on a data basis.

A large part of the warehouse equipment will also be automated in the future so that the use of Bluetooth-guided robots and autonomous floor vehicles will already be taken into account in the design of the new warehouse facility. A photovoltaic system on the roof of the new building will sustainably and autonomously produce large parts of the electricity required to supply the planned electric charging stations for e-mobility, among other things.

"With the new building, we are not only setting an example to the Hellmann world of how logistics work in the age of digitalization."

"We are pleased that we can continue our growth at the Bremen site and offer a whole new level of digital service quality in all product areas. With the new building, we are not only setting an example to the Hellmann world of how logistics work in the age of digitalization," says Sven Eisfeld, Managing Director Germany, Hellmann Worldwide Logistics. "At the Bremen location, we see an increased demand for international transportation in Europe in particular, but also in global maritime traffic. With the new facility, we are creating the conditions for this," Eisfeld continues.
