Hi Chris, can you tell us about your role as Global Vice President of Technology Logistics and how you got there?

I joined Hellmann in October 2022. In my role, it is my responsibility to lead the development of supply chain solutions for the technology and consumer electronics industry. I can look back on over 30 years in the logistics industry, having started in the parcel industry in the UK, I gradually worked my way up to the global players. Throughout my career, I have always been involved with tech clients and have lived in various global locations, including the US and Hong Kong. Prior to joining Hellmann, I held various leadership positions at other logistics companies such as XPO and CEVA, where I served as Vice President of Global Strategic Accounts and Senior Vice President of Northern Europe, respectively.

I was particularly drawn to Hellmann because of the opportunity to define the technology storyboard within the business and have a personal contribution to it. It allows me to work with my team to create innovative solutions that can truly make a difference in the industry.

Tell us about Hellmann Technology Logistics and its mission. 

Hellmann Technology Logistics is a newly created industry solution that focuses on the high-tech and consumer electronics industry. With this sector developing at an incredibly high speed and facing major supply chain disruptions, our mission is to provide a flexible and agile logistics solution that meets the demands of our tech clients, ensuring it is tailored to their unique needs and help them stay head of the curve in an ever-changing and demanding market.

The Hellmann service range covers everything from warehousing and third-party logistics to inbound, outbound and reverse logistics. This enables us to offer end-to-end solutions to companies in the Tech industry, helping them to optimize their order processes and support them in their future growth plans.
One of the most exciting aspects of Hellmann Technology Logistics is our global team of industry experts. With our team located strategically around the globe, we are ideally positioned to support our clients in every geography and across all areas of the industry, from semiconductors to washing machines. This means that our clients can rely on us to provide comprehensive support no matter where they are or what their specific logistics needs may be. 

What were the main reasons to establish this new industry solution?

Hellmann already had a strong footprint in the technology and consumer electronics sector, serving over 1,000 technology customers globally. However, we recognized that there was a need for a dedicated team to support these clients in their growth journey. 

One of the main reasons for establishing this new industry solution was to focus on mid-sized companies and provide flexible logistics solutions that can scale with them as they grow, whether they are a new player or an established company. As a family-owned company, Hellmann's structure enables us to adjust quickly and make changes rapidly, which is crucial in such a dynamic sector. 

The technology market is highly competitive, and forecasts predict that it will continue to grow at a rapid pace. Our new vertical, Hellmann Technology Logistics, will provide our tech customers with the secure, dependable, and cost-effective logistics solutions, enabling them to stay competitive and thrive in this fast-paced industry.

Can you give us some examples of the technology goods that Hellmann Technology Logistics will be handling?

Sure, the new vertical is responsible for the worldwide shipping of sensitive, fragile, and high-value, high-tech and entertainment electronics goods. These products range from computers, semiconductors and components, to smartphones, printers, televisions, games consoles, and their various accessories. We are also working with many household appliance manufacturers products, such as air conditioners, refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, dryers, or dishwashers.

What are the main trends that you are seeing in the technology industry?

We are seeing several key trends at the moment. One of the most notable trends is ‘nearshoring,’ which involves relocating manufacturing facilities closer to the target market. This trend has emerged in response to supply chain disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and geo-political challenges, and aims to reduce lead times, improve agility, and ultimately improve customer experience.

Another trend that is transforming logistics in the tech industry is the increased use of big data and artificial intelligence (AI). These technologies are being used to improve inventory management, optimize supply chain processes, and enhance overall operational efficiency. In terms of inventory management, we are seeing a growing trend towards just-in-time (JIT) inventory systems, which are designed to minimize inventory costs by only ordering and holding stock as needed. This approach can help to reduce the risk of overstocking, which can be a significant cost driver in the technology industry.

Overall, the technology industry is evolving at an incredibly fast pace, with new technologies and trends emerging all the time. As a result, it is critical for us as a logistics provider to stay up to date with the latest trends and innovations to ensure that we are providing the best possible service to our clients.
