Solar Energy - Powered by Hellmann

Focus

Northeast of Berlin, in the tranquil district of Barnim, the energy provider EnBW is building Germany's largest solar park to date. With an output of 187 megawatt peak, the solar power plant is expected to supply around 50,000 households with environmentally friendly energy and save 129,000 tons CO₂. Hellmann Renewable Energy Logistics supports EnBW along the entire supply chain from China to the construction site in Brandenburg.

The "Weesow-Willmersdorf Solar Park" is located not far from the city of Werneuchen, some 26 kilometers northeast of Berlin, and covers a total area of 209 hectares. For the first power plant of this size, which EnBW will operate in the future, around 465,000 solar modules with a specific output of 400 Wp on average ("Watt Peak" as a unit for the electrical output of solar modules) will be used. The PV modules are produced by the manufacturer Trina Solar in China.

From a logistical point of view, this is a truly large-scale project that requires close cooperation between all business units at Hellmann. The photovoltaic modules from Ningbo, China, are first shipped to Hamburg by sea freight, where they are transshipped and temporarily stored by Hellmann Contract Logistics, and finally transported just-in-time to the construction site in the hinterland of Brandenburg by direct loading with semi-trailers. Between 30 and 50 containers are delivered in this way each week. EnBW uses our live tracking tool Hellmann Smart Visibility to keep an eye on GPS data and external influences such as impacts or vibrations of the fragile goods at all times.

In view of the tense situation in global sea freight, characterized by a shortage of cargo space and an increasing price spiral, a project of this magnitude is not always easy. Nevertheless, Hellmann Renewable Energy has so far succeeded in delivering all containers to the construction site on time. To this end, weekly coordination meetings are held with the Chinese supplier and the project managers at EnBW, and a Microsoft team platform was set up specifically for this purpose. This enables the company to react quickly and flexibly to delayed departures or other time shifts and to rebook transports at short notice if necessary.

"With the solar park, our customer EnBW wants to accelerate the energy turnaround. We are therefore pleased to make an important contribution to the success of the project with the logistics in the background."

"With the solar park, our customer EnBW wants to accelerate the energy turnaround. We are therefore pleased to make an important contribution to the success of the project with the logistics in the background. The basis for this is the exemplary interaction of our various product areas from sea freight, road & rail, contract logistics, and renewable energy - for this, we have great praise for all those involved", says Daniel Placke, Project Manager Hellmann Renewable Energy Logistics. The "Weesow-Willmersdorf Solar Park" is to be connected to the grid before the end of this year and will generate green electricity by 2060.
